8 Chifley is one of Sydney’s greenest buildings and marked our first collaboration with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Lippmann Partnership in Australia.
Arup came to Australia in 1963 to undertake the structural design of the Sydney Opera House. We now employ over 2,000 staff working from ten offices across the country and have developed a diverse practice through delivering a wide range of projects for public and private sector clients. Our desire to shape a better world ensures our clients receive smart design ideas with a social purpose, which will have a positive influence for current and future generations. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where our offices are located and where our projects take place. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and to all Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. We recognise and celebrate their cultures, traditions and protocols.

Arup opened in Cairns in 1993 to improve its building and infrastructure across the North Queensland region.
We are shaping the future of the city centre with the Cairns City Centre Masterplan Review and have improved healthcare provision with the Cairns Hospital Redevelopment.
Our projects include well known landmarks such as the Cairns Convention Centre, Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre and the Mamu Rainforest Canopy Walkway.
We have a reputation for being able to push the frontiers of thinking and design when finding sustainable solutions to the challenges posed by the tropics - extreme weather, the impact of tourism, and the ability of the built environment to coexist with the natural environment. We led the development of the Far North Queensland Water Strategy that will map out the provision of water resources for Cairns and the surrounding region up to 2050, while William McCormack Place is the ‘greenest’ building in the tropics.
