The largest city in China, Shanghai is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and is a booming business and industrial centre.
Arup’s projects include many of the city’s landmark skyscrapers, ranging from Shanghai’s first tall building Hilton Hotel, the Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower and Pudong Shangri-la Hotel Extension to the more recent projects such as Shanghai Jing’an Kerry Centre and Shanghai Lujiazui Financial Centre Phase 2.
Arup also contributed greatly to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. We were involved in the masterplanning competition for the Expo site. For the Expo pavilions, Arup is the engineer for the Denmark Pavilion, Korea Pavilion and Singapore Pavilion, and we also provided technical advice on the China and UK pavilions.
The Shanghai office is Arup’s first foothold in mainland China and provides a wide range of services. In addition to serving the needs of the local market, the office is active throughout the Yangtze River Delta Region, including Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Suzhou and Wuxi, and other parts of China, such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Tianjin and Wuhan.
