New Zealand's economic capital and largest commercial centre is a base for many major international corporations. Known as the City of Sails, yachting is a major pastime for Auckland's residents and visitors, whose numbers are forecast to grow hugely over the next few decades.
Auckland is hugely reliant on private vehicles and its sprawling development makes access a key priority for the city council. Arup has developed a city access plan for Auckland to tackle the need for greater public transport while maintaining the city's charms and preparing it for future growth.
Arup's influence extends way beyond the city itself. Over 100km offshore, Arup's innovative Maari Well Head Platform has made it economically viable to explore some of the deepest and remotest oilfields 100km offshore in the Taranaki Basin.
Other projects include the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington which is dedicated to New Zealand's peoples and history.
