A prime retail destination and cultural centre, Leeds is the engine for growth and employment at the heart of an increasingly prosperous region. Leeds city centre is set for major changes over the next five years with the development of the Eastgate Quarters, the West End and the Trinity Quarter.
Working closely with bodies such as Yorkshire Forward and the City Council on Leeds City Vision, Arup’s involvement in the city’s future development is at strategic level. Arup’s impact on the public realm is epitomised by its work on the Neville Street “sound and light project”, which will transform an unprepossessing tunnel through which many approach Leeds into a walk-through, moving light installation.
Arup’s work in the Leeds City Region is diverse and varied, and includes working closely with Yorkshire Water’s largest capital schemes and water infrastructure as well as environmental gems such as Castleford Weir Fish Pass. Other flagship projects are Wellington Place and Holbeck Urban Village.
In neighbouring Bingley, Arup has advised on the award-winning A650 Bingley Relief Road, one of the most technically challenging highway projects in the UK, which includes 26 structures including a cable-stayed footbridge.
