Cyberport is one of the most prestigious developments in Hong Kong. It is a 25ha, mixed-use, multimedia park focused on high-tech multimedia start-ups and established software firms. The development includes one PTI, one commercial complex Cybercenter, one hotel, several office buildings and residential buildings.
Arup provided multidisciplinary services for the award-winning development, including building services, fire, façade and structural engineering.
The firm was involved as a strategic partner to help the developer to obtain funding from the Hong Kong government. This involved creating the overall technology strategy (involving commercial, regulatory and operational issues), detailed designs for the full range of IT facilities and buildings, procurement options (including tender evaluation of IT and telecommunications packages), an implementation programme and design coordination.
Arup was subsequently appointed as the independent technical consultant. The team prepared an information and communications technology masterplan and detailed design, as well as managed the tendering process.
Cyberport was highly praised, not just for its state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and architecture but, more importantly, for the role model it creates for future IT-connected communities.
