Due to its semi-arid climate, Botswana faces water resource challenges relating to irrigation and potable water consumption requirements.
This has prompted the government to focus on large water-resource development projects, enabling the population to access clean water and diversifing the economy by creating agricultural opportunities.
For the Letsibogo Dam development, Arup, in joint venture with SMEC, undertook a review of background information, preliminary design studies and conducted an assessment of the project hydrology.
Geotechnical investigations and topographical surveys were carried out to determine the correct approach to the substructure and ground levels for the proposed dam.
This culminated in the creation of a detailed design and preparation of comprehensive tender documents for the client.
