Zara Portal del Angel is the first store in Spain to obtain a LEED CI Gold certification. Arup carried out the sustainability consulting, energy modeling and coordination of the LEED CI certification for the fit out of the store space.
For this project, with a surface area of 4,000m², a series of very detailed sustainable objectives have been established in regards to energy saving, efficient water use, material selection and environmental compliance.
Arup´s role was involved right from the development of the sustainable integrated design strategy and the coordination and implementation of the LEED process, up to consultancy on furnishings, equipment and the complete services.
In order to ensure a good result from the very beginning of the process, Arup concentrated on reducing the environmental impact and carbon emissions, and at the same time taking care of the integration and viability of the Zara store concept, and the way that Inditex promote.
