The refurbishment of Goodenough College’s London House, a Grade II listed building in Bloomsbury, London, is now complete.
London House was originally built in the 1930s and had not undergone any major infrastructure work since opening its doors over 80 years ago. Goodenough College wanted to refurbish and update its accommodation in order to provide members with contemporary facilities to meet the needs of multi-national postgraduate students and their families.
Arup was appointed to undertake the project management, contract administration and risk management services on London House. This was as a result of successfully project managing the refurbishment of William Goodenough House in 2012 – another listed building owned by Goodenough College.
Both projects involved refurbishment of the building fabric and the complete renewal of the building services, with the addition of new facilities, while keeping the unique character of these important heritage buildings. The Great Hall, the Parsons Library and the Chapel were restored to their former glory.
