The southern traffic lanes of the Galecopper Bridge are fully reopened to traffic from Monday 22 December.

Through a successful application of a layer of high strength concrete to the top of the deck of the A12 in the direction to Arnhem, the renovation of the south bridge of the Galecopper Bridge is as good as finished.

Together with Royal HaskoningDHV Arup is responsible for design, preparation, contract, site engineering and project management.

Strip by strip the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) has examined the road deck of the southern Galecopper Bridge, restored and applied high strength concrete. Earlier the bridge had been strengthened by girders weighing 6M kilos of steel alongside and under the bridge. Also we ensured that the bridge could be elevated by 1 metre to enable a bigger load to sail under the bridge.

During Spring 2015 the north deck will be renovated, adding high strength concrete. Through this update the traffic will drive alongside the tent that protects the work from the weather, as before.

The renovation is scheduled to the end by September 2015, with the bridge serving traffic by road and canal for another 30 years.
