Arup will be delivering a keynote speech at the upcoming annual conference of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS).

Themed ‘Future Visions’ the symposium brings together professionals from the architecture, engineering and construction industry to discuss the latest developments in the field of shell and spatial structures and related technologies, such as fabrication, digital technology, special and non-standard structures, innovative materials and other developments.

Arup's keynote speech will be held by Mike King, who is a principal and structural engineer in our Singapore office. Over his 24 year career he has come to specialise in long-span structures for major sports arenas, airports and stations in his native Australia, North America, the UK and South East Asia. Amongst his most prominent projects are the 310m span Singapore National Stadium, the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics with Zaha Hadid and the diagrid-shell roofed new entrance building for London’s iconic King’s Cross Station with John McAslan Architects.

IASS and the Royal Dutch Institute for Engineers (KIVI) are co-organising the yearly IASS symposium. Arup is also taking part in the exhibition, which is part of the program.

The symposium will take place from 17 to 20 August 2015 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands at ‘Het Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ’. More information can be found on the website: http://www.iass2015.org.
