Arup chosen to lead regeneration of Parsloes Park

Arup has been appointed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to lead on masterplanning the regeneration and restoration of the borough's largest public space, Parsloes Park.

The 58 hectare space has existed in its current form since the 1930s as a ‘People’s Park’, which itself was overlaid on a 400 year old designed landscape.

This new scheme will form part of a future Heritage Lottery Fund Parks for People bid and will involve bringing the site’s heritage to life and opening up the park to wider audiences.

I am thrilled that Arup has been chosen to lead on masterplanning Parsloes Park and that we can now begin to get the transformation going. This park is centrally located in the borough and has a very rich history, but the borough has seen many changes over the years and it’s really important that this development makes the park a destination for people; a place that residents and visitors are drawn to for a variety of activities for many years to come; not just a nice green open space. I am looking forward to seeing the proposals and ultimately seeing the park transformed with exciting and diverse uses. ” Cllr Darren Rodwell Leader of the Barking and Dagenham Council

The vision for the park, which will incorporate many aspects of the Cities Alive: Rethinking Green Infrastructure approach, will address a number of priorities, including health and wellbeing, managing flood risk and ecosystem health, and the transition to low carbon lifestyles through encouraging green travel.

These priorities will all be addressed whilst conserving and enhancing the park’s heritage and biodiversity assets.

This new vision will rethink Parsloes Park as a nature park of re-wilded and connected landscapes. It’s a site that has contributed to the wellbeing of residents for generations. Consequently, it’s hugely rewarding to be chosen to make sure this green space continues to play such an important part of everyday life in the borough. ” Tom Armour Global Landscape Architecture Leader

This project follows on from Arup’s work on the nearby multi-award winning Beam Parklands, which we took from inception through to completion.
