Associate Director and Timber Competence Team Leader at Arup Germany

Carsten Hein is Associate Director and leader of the competence team for timber construction at Arup in Germany. The renowned structural specialist has more than 30 years of experience in the planning of complex structures and has been responsible for numerous national and international projects.

He is particularly interested in timber construction. Together with his timber competence team, he researches the development of new composite materials and is committed to the use of timber and timber composites as sustainable material. Carsten Hein led the research for the LifeCycleTower in Austria and the design for the H7 timber hybrid high-rise in Münster. Carsten Hein is member of the Tall Timber Research Group at the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) since 2014 and a board member of the German Chapter of the CTBUH since 2020. He lectures worldwide on innovations in timber construction.
