Diane Emerson is the Climate and Sustainability Leader of Arup’s UK, India, Middle East and Africa region. She leads a team focused on addressing some of the most significant global challenges including climate change mitigation and adaptation, nature recovery, and social inequality. Her work has a focus on sustainability and resilience and her passion lies in embedding sustainable development in projects, policies and strategies.

Diane’s role is deeply client facing, engaging with some of the largest organisations in the UK’s energy, transport, water, financial and property sectors, as well as meeting with UK government ministers and local authorities. She is experienced in leading multidisciplinary commissions, delivering policy level support to government departments, coordination of public sector programmes in energy, waste and carbon management, developing corporate sustainability strategies and project specific masterplanning and design advice.

As a Chartered Environmentalist, she is recognised for her participation in global conversations around decarbonisation, nature conservation and sustainability. In 2020, she was appointed to the Belfast Climate Commission, which provides an exciting opportunity to influence the city’s response to the climate emergency, supporting Belfast’s resilience planning to enable the creation of a better future for Northern Ireland.
