Clarks North America: Logistics Center, Hanover, PA

Cross-disciplinary advice ensured greater integration and optimisation

Clarks’ distribution facility is based in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The company had significantly outgrown their existing North American distribution facility, which required them to expand warehousing locations across the town.

In 2005, Clarks hired Arup to provide advice on the most efficient means of increasing Clarks’ distribution capacity in the US annually. Their need focused on two principal components: the material handling system and building design and construction. These works required distinct specialties and skills, and two separate supplier selection processes. Our holistic solutions enabled the team to adopt a highly efficient, integrated approach to design this modern facility.

In addition to providing conceptual design services, as well as technical, logistics, and materials handing advice, Arup also provided project management, scheduling, and commissioning services that helped to bring the project to fruition. We were involved in all four project phases: concept plan, scheme design, implementation, and transition.
