Between 2004 and 2009 Arup worked on an average of 150 switch and crossing units per year, from simple turnouts to multiple unit at grade junction layouts.
Each switch and crossing unit renewal has involved multidisciplinary railway design skills, including preparatory work such as topographical surveys and site inspections.
Full design services have included permanent way, overhead line, civil engineering, electrification and plant, signalling, telecommunications and environmental disciplines.
Arup’s experience was used to build dynamic design teams capable of designing all the complexities of switch and crossing layout – from wholesale renewals and enhancements to intricate part renewals.
