Mark Chown is a director at Arup in Spain and a member of the Europe Region Board where he currently is responsible for the Arup University and Digital Transformation in the region, and acts as our Europe Building Services Leader. Mark was also made an Arup Fellow in 2014.
During his professional career as a mechanical engineer he has gained broad experience in the multidisciplinary design of buildings, with an interest and focus on how the design of building services can influence architecture when considered holistically along with sustainability principles and low energy design.
Mark has worked on projects all over the world including collaborating with many international architects such as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Foster & Partners, Zaha Hadid, Grimshaw Architects and Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Project highlights include Kansai International Airport, Kanak Centre Culturel in Noumea, Palasport Hockey Stadium in Turin, Picasso Museum in Malaga, Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Palmas Altas Campus in Sevilla, Caixa Galicia Foundaiton in La Coruña, BBVA Headquarters in Madrid and the Atrio Towers in Bogotá.
