Mark leads Arup’s European hydrogen business and has a strong background in energy systems engineering and programme management in government, especially in policy development in energy. Mark has led on projects in hydrogen, industry & CCUS, and Bioenergy.

In his previous role he acted as Deputy Director for Energy Innovation for the UK Dept of Business Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), London, responsible for 100 staff and £1bn budget. He provided overall portfolio, commercial and finance leadership as well as technical and contract management oversight. Successes included the UK’s first large scale carbon capture plant at Tata Chemicals, demonstrations of the use of hydrogen in a sheet glass furnace, cement and lime kilns as well as the world’s first hydrogen homes. 

He actively seeks opportunities in all aspects of the application of the hydrogen economy including production, storage, distribution as well as hydrogen derivatives and industrial use, across the Europe region.
