Arup has been recognised as a top contender for the Outstanding ESG Award at the 2024 British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC)’s Business Excellence Awards held in Kuala Lumpur.

As first runner up for the award, the BMCC recognised the firm’s excellence in going beyond adopting ESG practices by actively advocating for low carbon outcomes to the wider industry and to policymakers.

Lau CL, Arup’s Malaysia Country Leader said: “We are honoured to receive this accolade which underscores our commitment to driving sustainable innovation for the built environment and championing social inclusion. This award was made possible by our clients, partners, and members for their trust and collaboration. As our global firm celebrates 60 years of operating in Malaysia this year, we look forward to finding new ways to shape a more resilient future for generations.”

In Malaysia, Arup has worked with multiple clients to deliver projects that enhance city liveability and climate resilience, and promote sustainable socio-economic growth. This work includes the Clean Growth Handbook Malaysia, Think City Green Connector Network Study, Retrofit of Gurney Ascott Hotel, Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) Transport Facilities Action Plan, and Bau and Serian masterplans.

“Beyond projects, we actively advocate for climate action through conferences, media, and strategic partnerships to positively influence industry and the public in creating change for a sustainable future. We look beyond our carbon footprint and pay close attention to the impact we can bring through our carbon handprint,” Murali Ram, Arup’s Malaysia Cities & Advisory Leader said.

The fifth edition of the prestigious Business Excellence Awards celebrated the outstanding work and results achieved by corporations in the UK and Malaysia across various categories.
