Global sustainable development consultancy, Arup, has relocated its team in York in an exciting move that strengthens its commitment to the city and its presence in the North of England.

Thirty-five employees have relocated from Arup’s previous office in Lendal Arches, where they had been since 2010, to the historic Grade II-listed West Offices - the former railway station and current headquarters for City of York Council.

The new office positions Arup at the heart of York’s business community, sharing a co-working space with an array of collaborators, including the City of York Council, LNER, Active Travel England, and the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority. It also connects the team with the city’s key business community and infrastructure clients, furthering Arup’s ability to support sustainable growth and continue to deliver impactful projects in York and the surrounding areas.

Arup has worked in the city for over 50 years, beginning with innovative conservation works on York Minster in the 1960s, which continue to this very day. We have since carried out multiple works in conservation and retrofit on the refurbishment and remodelling of the Grade I, II* and II-listed York Guildhall complex. We also supported the sustainable growth and development of the city with major infrastructure and masterplanning works, such as York Central and the adjacent York Station Gateway that is currently underway.

Our York team has an established reputation for delivering multidisciplinary projects centred around enhancing the city’s rail connectivity, including Arup's ongoing role as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade West Alliance – focused on enhancing rail capacity, reducing journey times and improving reliability between York and Manchester.

We are excited to build on Arup’s history in York and leverage local insights and global expertise to help shape a better York for the future. West Offices provide an excellent base to continue delivering high-quality service to clients, cultivating relationships and exploring new ways to make a positive impact on the city and the surrounding region.
