Soon to adorn Dubai’s skyline, Muraba Veil will be a 380-metre skyscraper which combines traditional elements with modern design, to harmonise with local culture. Just 22.5m wide, the slender skyscraper, will offer 131 units distributed across 73 storeys.
Requiring technical advice, Muraba Properties contacted Arup for guidance on the technical design of this super slender skyscraper. The goal of the Dubai-based developer was straightforward: to deliver a residential skyscraper on time and with high-quality solutions.
Experts in tall building design, Arup brought in global engineering, architecture, and acoustics know-how to ensure design feasibility and functionality.
Arup’s technical direction has significantly advanced the project definition, allowing for the early identification of potential challenges. Our teams across architecture, engineering and acoustics offered a comprehensive array of solutions and operational scenarios to enhance the project’s resilience and adaptability to changing technical and market conditions.
Ensuring quality: the technical advisor's role
Arup has acted as the technical advisor to Muraba Properties, RCR Arquitectes and WSP since the concept phase, providing expert guidance on the design, materials, and engineering solutions. This support encompasses essential acoustic insulation to mitigate noise from the nearby main highway, and adaptations to withstand the rigorous desert climate, ensuring high durability standards. For example, the skyscraper will feature an external mesh and deep balconies to protect users from direct sun radiation.
As technical advisor, we helped the client make informed decisions throughout each phase of the project development. From initial feasibility assessments to reviewing architectural and structural plans, we evaluated risks and anticipated potential issues.
