ScotRail has a long-term strategy to replace diesel rolling stock with a new suburban fleet, which will be formed of a mix of electric multiple units and battery electric multiple units (BEMU).

This suburban fleet will allow them to offer a more reliable, safer and accessible railway for the passengers, while also supporting the Scottish Government to achieve its decarbonisation targets.

Our rolling stock procurement team are helping ScotRail to procure a new fleet of suburban trains which will enter passenger service between 2028 and 2030 to connect local communities across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen.

In our role as ScotRail’s technical advisor on procurement for the new trains, we are supporting in a number of ways. This includes development and stress testing of the draft pre-qualification questionnaire and invitation to negotiate documentation through market sounding, ‘day in the life’ sessions and workshops. We’ve also set up governance and overall evaluation strategy for the new rolling stock procurement. Our role will continue through the full evaluation period.
