Rolling stock procurement
The rolling stock procurement process is complex. These are major investment decisions that must address a rail network’s physical location, long-term operational and service goals, deliver a great passenger experience, and integrate with existing assets and infrastructure.
As a rail engineering partner, we develop procurement strategies that unify these and many other considerations, forming the basis for sound investments.
We engage with all relevant users and groups, feeding their insights and requirements into detailed technical specifications for future rolling stock. During this process we also benchmark rolling stock options, using our own in-house analytical tools, bringing much needed validation to the claims made in the market place.
At a macro level, we also help networks and train operators to develop long-term fleet strategies including cascades, repurposing and disposal options. Clients gain robust summaries of market options that address immediate technical feasibility of a proposed rolling stock design, supported by insights into the sustainability and reliability of its supply chain. This is vital for operational confidence and future maintenance.
Procurement and net zero
Today, assessing the environmental impact of potential procurements is a vital element of every asset investment. Our wide expertise in rail engineering, operational insights and environmental analysis, enables us to provide robust benchmarking for any given design over its lifespan.
Our expertise in rolling stock engineering, including its underlying technical and operational analysis, is based on decades of experience worldwide. We have worked with rail operators in over 15 countries and continue to bring clients confidence in their rolling stock investments.
East West Rail aims to become a net zero carbon railway by the time passenger services run all the way along the East West Rail line from Oxford to Cambridge.
We were engaged as the engineering partner and collaborated with the client to develop the rolling stock systems strategy for fleet procurement. This involved developing the interim fleet requirements and working closely with all the related design stakeholders. This work led to the formation of a long-term fleet strategy.
