We use an integrated approach, bringing together all the building designers and technical specialists needed to shape a new building or retrofit an existing one. Arup specialists, working seamlessly with their colleagues and collaborators, are behind many commercial buildings considered exemplars of sustainability worldwide – such as the LEED Platinum Seattle Convention Center; 8 Bishopsgate, the tallest BREEAM Outstanding building in the UK; and Arup’s next-generation Sydney workplace at 151 Clarence Street, given a 6-Green-Star rating.

We conduct whole life carbon assessments on our projects and have helped many clients realise their sustainability aspirations in buildings that achieve ratings under systems including LEED, BREEAM, NABERS, Green Star and CASBEE.

We have always been advocates for a human-centred design approach and environments that help occupants to thrive. Building with the human experience as an integral part of our practice, we deliver solutions that promote health and wellbeing. Important features of this approach include biophilic design – to increase occupants’ connection to the natural environment – as well as terraces, open visible staircases, natural ventilation and indoor air quality.

Arup’s Melbourne Workplace in One Melbourne Quarter has been awarded Platinum WELL certification by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) – demonstrating world-leading commitment towards occupant health and wellness.
